How The Broncos Missed Out On The Greatest Ever Player

Could you imagine the Melbourne Storm without Cameron Smith?

Well it was almost a possibility, as Saturday Triple M and Fox Sports’ James Hooperrevealed how the Melbourne Storm, Queensland and Australian captain almost joined the Brisbane Broncos as a 17-year-old.

“He sat in Wayne Bennett’s office with his parents,” Hoops said.

“Wayne rolled the red carpet out and said to him we want you, we want you for the future.” Listen to the full audio below.

However, Smith saw an opportunity elsewhere and rebuffed Bennett and the Broncos.

“When he was 17-years-old, he drove all the way from Brisbane to Melbourne with his parents to come and meet Craig Bellamy and the Melbourne Storm people. That is how his journey to this club began,” Hoops said.
