THE North Queensland Cowboys are inviting fans to add a piece of home to Townsville’s new stadium – in the form of soil.
Supporters have been asked to bring up to 1kg of soil from their home or sports ground to the annual Cowboys Members Carnival on August 20, or to Cowboys HQ until 4pm on August 25. The soil will be deposited at the stadium site in a contribution ceremony set for August 29.
Cowboys CEO Greg Tonner said the invitation was about bringing the club’s supporters along the journey to their new home.
“Even though we live in different towns and cities in this great region we are truly one Cowboys community and this is a great way to recognise it,” he said.
Supporters Rose Powell and Kathy Baker collected soil from 1300SMILES Stadium this week. Mrs Powell said it was a fun way to involve the club’s fans.
Biosecurity Queensland conditions apply and soil should only be sourced from non-production areas like homes, gardens, reserves and bush areas. For more details visit cowboys.com.au/home-ground
