The Green Bay Packers will look to get their winning ways back on track after being so close in 2016. Aaron Rodgers will lead the charge yet again but that doesn’t mean the Packers are not left without questions.
Will Clay Matthews return to form?
Who will run the ball and how far can they actually go with a healthy roster?
This should be an interesting season for Rodgers and crew as they will look to make a push and topple the Falcons for top honors in the NFC.
Here are 3 Bold Predictions for the 2017 Green Bay Packers
No Super Bowl Unless They Find A Running Back
Aaron Rodgers is good but he can’t win a SB with his arm alone. The Packers will need to eventually address this situation or another stellar season by Rodgers will be wasted. There were reports that the Packers will make an attempt on Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin but nothing has come of that. As of now, it looks as if Ty Montgomery is the feature back. In 2016, he rushed for 457 yards on 77 attempts for an average of 5.9 yards per carry. With numbers like those, it’s no reason to think he can’t take the job full-time. But is Montgomery a three-down back? In a Division where running the ball will be key, the Packers must not fall short in this area. If Montgomery is the guy then they will need to find a suitable backup to split the carries just in case.
Clay Matthews Will Have A Pro Bowl Season
At one point in his career, Matthews was hailed as the best LB in the NFL. It’s tough to say that age has caught up with him but he has lost a step. However, with all great players, they see the decline and they come back harder. This is what makes Matthews so special in that regard. In order for the Packers to succeed– the defense has to step up and that starts with Clay. In 2016, Clay only started 9 games.Mathews ended the season with his worst ever statistically with 20 tackles and 5 sacks. For a player who attacks with strength, this is non-acceptable for him. He will look to redeem his name and the Packers spot amongst one of the top units in the league in 2017. Matthews will end the year with 13 sacks and 50-55 tackles, earning a 7th trip to the Pro Bowl.
The Packers Will Finish The Season 5-1 In The NFC North
Going undefeated in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL is hard to do. I expect the Packers to sweep the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears and spilt one with the Minnesoata Vikings. It’s just someting about those Vikings and Packers games that bring out the nasty in both teams. With the Vikings winning the North in 2015, then the Packers coming back to claim it in 2016– we are seeing the rebirth of a great rivarry. The lone loss will be a close game and will be the only blemish on the Packers Divisional record.
