He’s off to the Dragons on a multi-million dollar deal at the end of the year, but Bronco Ben Hunt is clearly out of favour at Red Hill at the moment.
He’s been sent back to reserve grade for Brisbane’s clash with South Sydney on Friday night, with Wayne Bennett clearly looking to send a message about where the club’s future lies.
And while the veteran coach has been playing these games for years, the decision to move the soon-to-be Dragon down a grade took Dragons mentor Paul McGregor off-guard.
Hunt’s axing has prompted questions about whether St George Illawarra will make a play at the halfback to make an early move to Kogarah.
However, when asked whether his club would be making a move at Hunt before the June 30 deadline, the newly re-signed coach played a straight bat.
“I’m very comfortable with our playing group right now and where we’re sitting on the table,” McGregor told reporters.
“It’s something that I haven’t thought about, I won’t give much energy to right now.”
