Matt McIlwrick has signed a new two-year contract with the Tigers after impressing them in his first season with the club.
The former Shark won the battle for the number nine jersey with Matt Ballin missing the first part of the season with injury and he hasn’t given Ivan Cleary a reason to demote him.
Youngster Jocob Liddle is nipping at his heels but the club showed a sign of faith in McIlwrick to keep him until the end of the 2019 season.
“Matt has shown himself to be a very valued and well-respected member of this team, and will continue to develop into a quality hooker over the next two seasons,” coach Ivan Cleary said.
The 26-year-old fell out of favour at Cronulla with Jayden Brailey establishing himself as a quality first grader and James Segeyaro joining the club, but his career has taken off since his move to Concord.
“This club as been great to me in giving me an opportunity to come here, and I’m very grateful for that,” he said.
“They have supported me from day dne and I’m excited to be a part of the future here.
“There’s a great opportunity here to build something special, and you can already see positive change around the place. I know the Wests Tigers are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.”
