While Cooper Cronk has stated that he won’t play for Melbourne next season, it’s been reported by Triple M and the Australian’s Brent Read that the Storm still have a huge impact on Cronk’s playing future.
Speaking on Triple M’s Dead Set Legends, Ready said that the call won’t come until the end of the year – and for a telling reason.
“I think he wants to see how it all pans out,” Ready said.
“If he wins a comp with Melbourne at the end of the year, that may convince him to retire.
“If he doesn’t, he may go around again. And Cronulla will just be happy to wait and see how it all unfolds.
Triple M’s Wendell Sailor said that the prospect of an Origin series without Thurston could also be the catalyst for Cronk to hang around a bit longer.
“That would be the carrot right there,” Dell said.
“He’s had some good blokes beside him – Lockyer, Thurston…
“After seeing him last week and the way he talks about it (Origin), I reckon he’ll go around again.”
