New England Patriots: Are they the Golden State Warriors of the NFL?

With all the talk of the Golden State Warriors being the NBA’s most dominant dynasty team, are the New England Patriots in the same category for the NFL?

When the Golden State Warriors won their second NBA championship in three years two weeks ago, the debate raged on regarding their place in history as arguably the league’s all-time best team. But the New England Patriots accomplished the same feat first back on February 5.

So which is the better sports franchise and why? That is also highly debatable, although it has become much more difficult to repeat as champions in the NFL. Just ask the Patriots, who are the last team to do it following the 2004 season.  Since then, the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat both won consecutive NBA titles.

Golden State’s dominance cannot be questioned, especially after posting the best regular-season record in league history two years ago. But like the 2007 New England squad that went 16-0, there was no championship parade at the end of each team’s incredible run.

Historically, the Patriots are also continuing a dynasty that started back in 2002 when they stunned the St. Louis Rams for their first Super Bowl title. They were big underdogs in that game and have gone on to win four more Vince Lombardi trophies. Another victory in Super Bowl 52 would tie New England with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most ever.

No matter how you look at it, the Warriors and Patriots have been equally good and can only get better by adding more titles. Adding Kevin Durant put Golden State over the top, and New England has been in that position for years. What has made many talk about the Patriots potentially running the table this season is that they have improved. With wide receiver Brandin Cooks on board, their offense could be better than 2007. In the end though, stats are meaningless, and a sixth Super Bowl ring for Tom Brady would make them the greatest ever.
