SEA Eagles prop Marty Taupau produced a superhuman effort in Sunday’s 21-20 golden point win over the Raiders and the claws are out in his team’s fight for a finals berth.
The powerhouse forward certainly looked the part when he revealed his inner Wolverine at Manly’s Narrabeen training headquarters on Tuesday.
It was all part of the Sea Eagles paying tribute to Hollywood star Hugh Jackman for his passionate support of the club.
In Friday night’s game against the Knights at Lottoland the team will wear special jerseys featuring #ThankHugh on the front.
Taupau is a big Jackman fan and has met him through social media but not yet personally.
“Hopefully in the future we’ll get to see Hugh come down and support us,” he said.
While Taupau was at his devastating best against Canberra, he was the mild-mannered hero yesterday.
“I was just having a bit of fun out there, a few offloads here, a few runs here and there,” he said.
And in what must be music to the ears of coach Trent Barrett, Taupau says he still has a long way to go.
“I guess it would be for any person in any industry, just keep working on my weaknesses and building on my strengths,” he said.
But he is very positive about the team’s prospects for the rest of this season.
“The sky’s the limit for us,” he said.
‘”We are a bit patchy at times, the one thing that is a detriment for us is not being consistent throughout the whole 80 minutes,” he said.
The thank you to Jackman coincides with the release of Logan on Blu-ray and DVD yesterday, which is Jackman’s swan song in the iconic Wolverine role.
