Young Tigers future role undecided

THE performances of Wests Tigers five-eighth Tuimoala Lolohea will be under the microscope with coach Ivan Cleary undecided about his future next season.

The 22-year-old had one of his best games of the season in his side’s 33-12 win over the Newcastle, linking with halfback Luke Brooks to help create three tries.

Early indications suggested the mid-year Warriors recruit would play out the season at five-eighth before moving to fullback next year to make way for new recruit Josh Reynolds.

But news the Tigers are pursuing Roosters utility Connor Watson have bought those plans into question.

Watson has long terms plans to play at fullback, posing a potential problem for Cleary.

“His (Lolohea) best positions are No.6 and fullback, Cleary said.

“He has been moved around a lot in his career, outside backs.

“We just wanted to give him half a season in the one position. Let him get accustomed to the team and play in that role.”

During his 53-game NRL career Lolohea has played every position in the backline, but during his stint with the Tigers he has played every game in the No 6 jersey.

“He still hasn’t found his best footy,” Cleary said.

“If he gets some consistency in a position we’ll hopefully see the best of him.”
